Sini Sanuman ("Healthy Tomorrow" in Bambara)
Massachusetts-based Healthy Tomorrow is the sister organization of Sini Sanuman in Mali. Sini Sanuman works to empower women and girls and to stop the practice of female genital mutilation (fgm) in Mali and the African diaspora.
Sini Sanuman, directed by Susan McLucas, has been instrumental in recently getting a law passed banning excision (fgm) in Mali. There continues to be much work now for its enforcement.
Supports efforts to get a law passed against excision (fgm). The practice affects 94% of Malian women and girls and creates much pain and suffering. Many African countries have outlawed the practice, yet 26 African countries and 130 million women and girls are still affected. Fgm consists of cutting the female clitoris and labia. Sini Sanuman works to empower women and raise awareness through Malian public media, teaching, public meetings, music, song, and dance. In the Massachusetts area we offer fundraisers, films, talks and discussions to help raise awareness on this subject. Wyoma looks forward to fgm's transformation to mean f.g.m. - full girl maturation mystery and mastery for African women and for the empowerment of all women and girls. Healthworks Community Fitness
Wyoma teaches dance and yoga classes at Healthworks Community Fitness (HCF).
HCF is in partnership with Codman Square Health Center serving women and children in the Dorchester area. This is an upscale non-profit health club that serves all income levels. It promotes regular exercise for the community to improve health and fitness, and promote well-being and empowerment.
